5 ways to avoid burnout for entrepreneurs

Practicing self-care as a busy entrepreneur is essential. The daily ins and outs are always busy and full of planning, executing, and propelling your business forward.

As an entrepreneur, you usually put yourself last and pride yourself on working long hours to succeed. But, as you probably know first-hand, burnout is real.

Here are some simple self-care practices all busy entrepreneurs can incorporate into their daily lives:

Routine

Creating a routine may seem like common knowledge, but setting boundaries for yourself is crucial when you are someone who consistently works long hour days.

Set a schedule for when to start your day and when to stop. Of course, there will be important deadlines that will cause things to change, but if you stick to a routine most days, you’ll alleviate the constant go-go-go-go feeling that leads to burnout.

There are apps that can help you with that, too. She’s A Given is happy to assist you find the perfect fit.

Hydrate & Fuel your Body

While you are busy working away, it is easy to forget to keep up on water intake and eat proper meals. Ensuring your body is adequately fueled will help you be more efficient in your day-to-day life.

Take the time to meal plan or order meal delivery services to your door. Consider investing in a new water bottle.

Some even come with mantras and accountability levels! Whichever way will help you take care of YOU.

Get Moving & Also Meditate

Most of us sit behind a desk or computer and don’t actively engage our bodies as much as we’d like.

Whether you prefer to bring fitness into your day (hello, treadmill desks!) or schedule full workouts to help reduce stress, doing something to move your body is better than doing nothing.

To remind yourself to get moving, consider setting a timer to step outside for a 10-minute walk around the block or even take the time to meditate, relax, and reflect without worrying about your next meeting or the next ping of an email.

Allow your mind and body to disconnect at a few points throughout the day.

Hobbies

Hobbies are essential for everyone, regardless of your job title. Take the time to do something you love. Whether it's once a week or once a month, go play that golf game or take the art class.

Bring yourself joy! Do it yourself or take your friends. Social interactions with loved ones also help increase serotonin levels.

Delegate

Delegation is key to reducing stress and burnout long term. Don’t do everything by yourself. Trust in your team and employees.

Allow them to carry out the tasks that don’t need your day-to-day attention!

Stress is a part of life, but don’t let it be uncontrollable.

Integrating balance and wellness into your daily routine and practicing self-care will make for a happier and healthier you.

CREATE A SUPPORT SYSTEM

Having a support system of people you can turn to is a great way to combat burnout. Surround yourself with people who you can rely on and trust, who will listen and offer advice when you need it.

Whether it's family, friends or colleagues, having a support system will help you stay positive and motivated during times of stress.

BONUS: REWARD YOURSELF

It's important to set goals for yourself and to also reward yourself for a job well done.

Taking a few moments to recognize your accomplishments can be a great way to stay motivated and avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Make it a point to do something special for yourself, like taking a weekend off or treating yourself to a massage. This will help you stay focused and remain productive.

  • Early signs of burnout can include constant fatigue, decreased motivation, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and feeling overwhelmed or disillusioned about one's business. Recognizing these symptoms early and adopting self-care practices can be instrumental in preventing full-blown burnout.

  • Hobbies allow entrepreneurs to take a break from their professional environment, offering a change of pace and perspective. Engaging in activities they love can rejuvenate the mind, reduce stress, and increase overall happiness, helping them return to work with a refreshed mindset.

  • Entrepreneurs can invest in thorough training and regular feedback sessions for their team members. By setting clear expectations and maintaining open communication, they can delegate tasks confidently, knowing that the quality will be upheld and the team will seek guidance when needed. This balance ensures tasks are executed efficiently without the entrepreneur being stretched thin.
